Reuben Trane

Mr. Trane has more than 33 years experience designing and building pleasure craft, from 14’ sail boats to 65’ steel trawlers. During this period, he has created 5 different brands drawing on his early experiences in advertising and motion pictures.

EDUCATION:

M.F.A. in Film from Columbia University

BOAT BUILDING EXPERIENCE:

• 1980: Opened Florida Bay Boat Company which manufactured Trane-designed “Camp Cruising” sailboats: the 14’ “Peep Hen,” the 17’ “Marsh Hen,” the 21’ “Bay Hen,” and other “Hens” up to 24’.

• 1988: Opened the Florida Bay Coaster Company introducing a line of ship-like, steel trawlers, the Florida Bay Coasters, from 45’ to 65’.

• 1993: Trane was the founding president of Krogen Express Yachts designed by the late James Krogen. In addition to operations, Trane did all marketing plus inspection trips to the yard in Taiwan.

• 1995 - 2004: Worked with Mirage Manufacturing to create the Great Harbor and N-37 trawlers.

Trane was responsible for styling, layout and construction drawings. Other tasks included creating advertising for print and internet along with promotional videos.

• 2005 - Present: Opened Island Pilot LLC to design and build fast, cruising yachts from 42’ to 57’. Trane sourced a partner ship yard in Zhuhai City, China, travelling there often to oversee engineering, tooling, construction and sea trials. Island Pilot won numerous awards around the world for her diesel-solar hybrid yacht, the DSe 12m, designed with George Petrie.

OTHER EXPERIENCE:

• 1975 - 1980 Produced feature films in Miami, Florida.
